LGT Venture Philanthropy partners with AMP Health to support and strengthen resilient health systems in Africa
Washington, D.C., June 10, 2020 – LGT Venture Philanthropy (LGT VP), a charitable foundation based in Zurich, Switzerland, today announced a new engagement to support the Aspen Management Partnership for Health (AMP Health). With its flexible funding and its additional non-financial support, LGT VP will strengthen AMP Health’s partnership with African governments to develop resilient health systems.
“We are fully aligned with AMP Health’s embedded approach to strengthen teams and systems to scale quality health services,” said Tom Kagerer, Investment Director at LGT VP. “It’s an important addition to our Health Strategy that supports integrated community health solutions to reach national scale.”
AMP Health works to help build health systems and improve health outcomes by collaborating with governments to strengthen leadership and management capabilities through public-private partnership.
“While leadership and management skills are always important, they are absolutely critical during crises, like the COVID19 pandemic. We remain engaged with our Ministry of Health partners and will continue to support them as they navigate these challenging times,” said Robert Newman, Director of AMP Health. “LGT Venture Philanthropy shares our understanding of the importance of visionary leadership and meticulous management in ensuring continued access to essential primary health care, and we applaud their vision in committing to support this crucial work.”
LGT VP’s partnership will support AMP Health’s ongoing work in Malawi and AMP Health’s ability to meet the growing demand for its support in new and existing geographies. AMP Health is currently partnered with seven Ministry of Health teams in four countries: Ghana, Malawi, Sierra Leone, and Zambia, with near-term plans for expansion to Togo.
LGT VP is the latest organization to join AMP Health’s network of multi-sector partners – which includes the Community Health Acceleration Partnership, CRI Foundation, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, Gavi, Ghana Health Service, Ghana Ministry of Health, Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation, JBJ Foundation, Malawi Ministry of Health & Population, Merck for Mothers, Pfizer, Sierra Leone Ministry of Health & Sanitation, USAID, Vitol Foundation, and the Zambia Ministry of Health.
AMP Health is a non-profit initiative supporting governments to build visionary and effective public sector teams. It has its main operational hub in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is supported by a team at the Aspen Institute, a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) organization based in Washington, DC.
