Taking the Lead on Global Health

“If you have managerial skills and no leadership, where are you going? If you have leadership but you don’t know how to manage, what are you going to achieve?” – Dr. Agnes Binagwaho on the “Taking the Lead on Global Health” panel in Aspen in June

Last month, AMP Health travelled to Aspen, Colorado for a 2-day Leadership Refresher preceding the Aspen Ideas: Health festival. We brought together the Team Leads and Management Partners of all seven government health programs with which we partner for an immersive leadership & management training focused on legacy, the power of leading through questioning, and the vital importance of trust.

Later that week, AMP Health Director, Dr. Robert Newman, was featured on a panel at Aspen Ideas: Health on the role of leadership & management in global health. In “Taking the Lead on Global Health,” Dr. Newman was fortunate to speak alongside Dr. Agnes Binagwaho, former Minister of Health of Rwanda and current Vice Chancellor of the University of Global Health Equity; Dr. Victor Dzau, President of the United States National Academy of Medicine; and the moderator, Peggy Clark, the Vice President of Policy Programs at the Aspen Institute and Executive Director of the Aspen Global Innovators Group. The fascinating discussion ranged from the importance of innovation to the need to pair investment in these new technologies with increased investment in the people who use them. The panelists touched on building trust, bringing passionate young people together to build upon the leadership & management momentum, and much more.
