AMP Health Board appoints new Chair, Dr Fatoumata Nafo
On 27 June 2024, the AMP Health Board appointed Dr Fatoumata Nafo to the position of Board Chair. This follows David Milestone stepping down from the AMP Health Board after seven years of invaluable service, including three years as Chair. Dr Nafo brings a wealth of expertise and experience, having started her career at the community health level before going on to hold multiple senior leadership roles in her home country of Mali, across the African continent, and globally.
She has previously served as Mali’s Minister of Health and Minister of Social Affairs, Solidarity and the Elderly; Regional Director for Africa at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies; Executive Director of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership to End Malaria; Health Specialist at the World Bank; and World Health Organization Representative for Congo and Ethiopia. She is also currently Chair of the Board of the Foundation for Health and the Environment in Mali.
Dr Nafo’s extensive background in crisis and humanitarian work, social development, and public health, particularly in malaria control and prevention, along with her proven leadership in the global health sector, make her an exceptional choice to guide AMP Health on its mission to support visionary and effective teams. We are privileged to draw on her knowledge of global health and its intersections, and we are confident that under her leadership, AMP Health will continue making significant strides in supporting governments to achieve their Sustainable Development Goals.
Dr Robert Newman, Director at AMP Health, said, “David’s invaluable leadership and dedication over the past three years as Chair, and the past seven years on the Board, have been instrumental in the success of AMP Health. While we are sad to see him go, we have been the grateful beneficiaries of Fatoumata’s experience during her years as a Board member and I know AMP will continue to benefit from her insight, guidance, and wisdom as she takes on the role of Board Chair.”
“Fatoumata’s appointment represents a significant step forward for us. We have placed great emphasis on being an African-based organisation, with a staff complement that reflects the continent’s potential, expertise, and ingenuity. I am particularly proud that the AMP Health Board will now be led by an African and a woman of Fatoumata’s stature. We now form part of the 7% of organisations worldwide where women occupy the board chair seat.”
